MAO–XX – The Modern Art Orchestra's 20th anniversary concert series

Each evening of our anniversary concert series, MAO XX, is closely connected to the work of the past two decades, yet brings something entirely new: every concert is a premiere, further enriching the unique and diverse repertoire established during the MAO's first twenty years.

With its upcoming concert the Modern Art Orchestra (MAO) pays tribute to Ferenc Erkel, one of the most defining figures in Hungarian music history. This latest installment of the "Tradition Alive in Us" series casts the opera composer’s most beautiful duets in a new light.

Alongside his well-known operas – Bánk bán and Hunyadi László – arias from his less frequently performed works, such as Dózsa György and Sarolta, will also be featured in fresh, contemporary arrangements.

The arrangements were created based on a concept by Kornél Fekete-Kovács and realized through the work of the orchestra's composing community: János Ávéd, Kristóf Bacsó, Gábor Cseke, Gábor Subicz, and Attila Korb. The production features two outstanding soloists from the Hungarian State Opera House: Lilla Horti (soprano) and Tibor Szappanos (tenor).
