Péter Eötvös: The Sirens Cycle – Hungarian premiere
Founded in 1998, the Los Angeles-based Calder String Quartet is now one of the most important formations in the American chamber music scene, and in 2014 was awarded the Lincoln Center Avery Fisher Career Grant. The ensemble has close working relations with leading composers of our time, and is an inspired performer of the works of Terry Riley, Thomas Adès, David Lang and Péter Eötvös, among others.
The Sirens Cycle, written for a coloratura soprano and a string quartet, had its premiere at London’s Wigmore Hall in October 2016. Eötvös drew on three literary adaptations of an episode in Odysseus’s myth, that of Homer, Franz Kafka and James Joyce.
Part of the concert programme is presenting the new album, Péter Eötvös: String Quartets, released by BMC Records.
