Catalan Jazz On Tour | Andrés Coll's Cosmic Trio (CAT)
- Andrés Coll – marimba, piano, castanets
- Mateusz Smoczyński – violin, baritone violin
- Ramón López – drums, tabla
Andrés Coll, born 2000 in Ibiza, is a multinstrumentalist and composer emerging from the heart of Ibiza's ancient traditional music and dances, “ball pagès”, jazz, improvisation and modern music. Coll has become one of the distinctive young voices of the European jazz scene by having been under the protection and mentoring of the European jazz legend Joachim Kühn since a young age. Andrés’ work is an ongoing investigation into the relationship between ancestral music and the modern: taking the rhythms, melodies and spirit of Ibiza, then connecting them with North African gnawa music, modern jazz and contemporary music, to form his new sound: the “Avant-Groove” and “the Ibiza Sound”.
His Cosmic Trio merges deep-rooted musical traditions with bold, genre-defying improvisation. Alongside Coll on electric marimba, piano, and castanets, the band features Mateusz Smoczyński, a renowned Polish violinist and composer bridging jazz and classical, and Ramón López, a Spanish drummer whose global career spans Indian tabla, avant-garde jazz, and collaborations with icons like Pharoah Sanders, Archie Shepp, and Rashied Ali.
Their new sound, “Avant-Groove”, assembles the expressive freedom of the avant-garde with rhythmic foundations drawn from their homelands. From Spain to Poland, the trio channels centuries of tradition into music that is raw, expressive, and unmistakably modern – a new wave in European jazz. In 2026, they present Ride to Heaven, their latest album which unfolds as a cosmic journey through universal human themes: courage, nature’s call, hope, farewells, and the spirit of adventure. A call to ride joyfully towards one’s destiny.
