Chin Soo Young, actively renowned within South Korea’s jazz scene, is a jazz pianist with a Master’s degree in Composition from the City University of New York. In 2013, he was awarded the Louis Armstrong Award by the Jazz at Lincoln Center. Recently, he has diversified into contemporary art and multimedia arts, collaborating with galleries such as "Piknic," one of Korea’s leading art institutions acclaimed for curators like Ryuichi Sakamoto and Pina Bausch. His work includes the commissioned piece Faintly Through the Window for the Saul Leiter Exhibition.
Chin Soo Young has also garnered recognition for his collaborations with prominent musicians, including releasing an album with Hong I-sak, winner of "Sing Again" Season 3. Since 2024, he has been serving as a Residential Artist at the Korean Cultural Center in Hungary, captivating local audiences through joint projects with Hungarian jazz musicians.
This year's concert will feature a diverse lineup of artists from various genres. Modern dance choreographer and dancer Lim Semi, based in Austria and active across Europe, will perform alongside ROZU, who started as an R&B K-pop singer. Additionally, Buen Hyun Jei, who studied Geomungo at the Korea National University of Arts and has performed domestically and internationally, will be part of the program. A special recitation by Kondorosi Lizett Alíz, a young Hungarian child singer performing solo at St. Stephen’s Basilica and Matthias Church, will add a rich dimension to the performance.
This performance will consist of two parts. The first will feature pianist Chin Soo Young’s jazz standard repertoire. The second will feature a poetic drama themed "Rediscovered Light" commemorating the 80th anniversary of Korea's liberation. The specially commissioned piece for the second part, written by rising lyricist and Korean film screenwriter Lee Yeon-kyung, is expected to add a resonant resonance to the music.
