"What does Ligeti mean to me?
The intuition that there is something higher, more perfect than I could ever imagine, that there are connectionc in art, in the sciences, in the cosmos, about which he knows - and here my sentence breaks off."

György Kurtág

György Ligeti, one of the most influential composers of the late 20th century, would have been 93 years old on this day. On the last event of the of the Digital Concert Hall series season we pay homage to his memory.

From November 2015 a new series has been started at the BMC Library. Selecting from the program of the Digital Concert Hall, brought to life by the Berlin Philhamonic Orchestra, live concert-broadcasts and archive footages equally appear on the program. Needless to say: as one of the world’s leading symphony orchestras the Berlin Philharmonic’s new season presents great artists like Zubin Mehta, Sir John Eliot Gardiner and Daniel Barenboim, along with Music Director Sir Simon Rattle. In addition to the prestigious cast of performers, the excellent audiovisual quality is also guaranteed: HD videos through the eight remote-controlled HD cameras in the Concert Hall of the Berlin Philharmonic, and the CD-like sound quality through BMC’s Avantgarde Acoustic sound system.

In the joint series of BMC and the Goethe Institut pieces by György Ligeti will be broadcasted from concert recordings made in the Great Hall of the Berlin Philharmonic. The event will be introduced by musicologist Zoltán Farkas (in Hungarian).

Entry to the program is free, but due to the limited number of seats a primary registration via e-mail (papp.krisztina@bmc.hu) is requested, latest by 12:00 27th May, 2016. Thanks for your understanding!
