The successful screening series of the Estonian Institute presenting the numerous links between Arvo Pärt’s music and cinema is to be continued in 2016. Pärt’s music inspired numerous film directors from Jean-Luc Godard through Tom Tykwer.

INTO ETERNITY: A FILM FOR THE FUTURE
Danish-Finnish-Swedish-Italian documentary, 2010, 75 min.
directed by Michael Madsen

The film follows the construction of the Onkalo waste repository at the Olkiluoto Nuclear Power Plant on the island of Olkiluoto, Finland. Director Michael Madsen questions Onkalo's intended eternal existence, addressing an audience in the remote future. Into Eternity raises the question of the authorities' responsibility of ensuring compliance with relatively new safety criteria legislation and the principles at the core of nuclear waste management.
