The solo flute concert features mostly few minutes’ long miniatures written by contemporary Hungarian composers, adding some pieces of Nordic music, represented by a Danish and a Finnish composer. One of the most important representatives of Scandinavian music, the Swiss-born Danish composer Gunnar Berg (1909-1989) became recognized a leading exponent of serialism, though some of his compositions are characterized by a very expressive mood. The Finnish Ville Raasakka, a composer in his forties, was successfully presented a few years ago on the events of the Hungarian Music Society. Short Cuts was originally written for clarinet, its version for flute was done specially for the concert. Bálint Baráth’s piece, r2xπ, was also composed for this occasion.
