Sylvain Luc, born in 1965, began playing the guitar at the age of four, then he studied violin, and later  cello for ten years at the Bayonne Conservatory. He moved to Paris in 1988, working there as arranger, composer as well as session musician+sideman of popular artists like Catherine Lara, Michel Jonazs, or Al Jarreau. He played jazz on bass in the Richard Galliano Trio and on guitar with Eric Le Lann.

As his contacts multiplied, Luc worked with some of the greatest musicians on the scene, including Wynton Marsalis, Steve Gadd, Lokua Kanza, Michel Legrand, Elvin Jones, Dee Dee Brigewater, Manu Katché, Stéphane Belmondo, Michel Portal, Bobby Thomas Jr., Andy Sheppard, Alain Caron, Bernard Lubat, Steve Lukather, Keyvan Chémirani, Victor Bailey, Larry Coyrell, Al Di Meola, Didier Lockwood, John Mc Laughlin, Billy Cobham, Richard Bona...

His first album, Piaia was released in 1993, since then he continuously releases albums in different lineups. His latest release was a solo album on nursery rhymes, Souvenirs d’Enfance, in November 2013. With Stefano di Battista in quartet he recorded this year an album based on movie-soundtracks (Ennio Morricone, Nino Rota, Michel Legrand, etc). 

In 2008, Luc won the “Django d’Or” music award for his achievements and in 2010 he was voted “Jazz Musician of the Year” by SACEM in 2010, and by the French Jazz Academy in 2011.
