Gábor Csalog's piano recitals continue with Chopin and Shostakovich on November 8, in the BMC Concert Hall. In the first half of the concert Csalog will perform excerpts of Chopin's 24 Preludes Op. 28 and Shostakovich's 24 Preludes and Fugues Op. 87. Baroque patterns emerge in the preludes and fugues of both of these two trailblazing composers, and Gábor Csalog believes that both of them may have had the sheet music of Bach's Das Wohltemperierte Klavier on their music stand at the time of composing. However it may have been, both composers integrated Baroque elements into their own musical language in a way that their own unmistakable artistic tone remained intact. In the second part of the recital, Chopin's four-movement Piano Sonata No. 3 in B minor, Op. 58 will be performed by the pianist, which – despite its lyricism – is one of Chopin's most technically and musically challenging works. This piece is one of the composer’s last works, a worthy summary of everything Chopin knew about music and the piano.
