Scandinavian Jazz meets Hungarian Vocals
Viktor Bürkland is an up-and-coming figure of the young jazz generation in Hannover (Germany), who in 2014 will present his new formation throughout Europe. The pianist, originally from Estonia, combines jazz compositions with northern melodies of his Scandinavian home. The music of his trio (Sebastian Bauer on the double-bass and Andi Schulz on drums) tells stories and paints impressions from the land of pastel-coloured skies, endless snow and magic white nights. Viktor Bürkland, born in Estonia, plays the piano since age five. Enrolled early in the Sibelius Academy of Music in Helsinki, he participates in international piano competitions till 2001, when discovering his passion for jazz music. He is soon admitted to the Academy of Music in Hannover, majoring in jazz piano and composition under the guidance of Bernd Homann, Simon Nabatov and Jonas Schoen. After festival and club concerts in Finland, Italy and Germany, his trio founded in 2011 is to be heard at the Jazzwoche Hannover 2013 . The cooperation with the Hungarian jazz singer, Thea Soti grants the project an extra edge: her intimate voice, passionate energy and spontaneity shakes up the lyrics and songs with a distinctive personal character.
