It’s well-known that Judy, one of Hungary’s best female singer with a “black-voice”, works together almost for one and a half decade with definitive bands of modern Hungarian pop scene, like Colorstar, Heaven Street Seven, Zagar, or Realistic Crew. “Harmony”, her solo debut was released in 2011.
Judie Jay is familiar with a wide range of musical styles from swing and blues trough hip-hop and trip-hop up to different kinds of electronic music, owing this partially to the innumerable musical impulses of her career as also to the multicultural environment she was growing up in. Born in Algeria as Judit Matinsky, she lived in Canada, worked in Berlin and in Corfu.
Which still is not so obvious that Judy Jay, in collaboration with guitarist Gábor Gergácz, has a brand new group, which had its very successful debut in the Opus Jazz Club, back in June. As Judy says, “for me, everything started with improvisation”, so it’s no wonder that jazzy and soulful covers of standards fit in with ease to her wide repertoire.
Seating at the Opus jazz Club can only be guaranteed in case of a table reservation.
