Young Estonian pianist/singer Kadri Voorand had her studies on classical piano and jazz at the Estonian Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, and at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm. By now she became the youngest lecturer of the jazz department of the Estonian institution where she has been studying just a couple of years ago. Winner of several national and international awards, Kadri is an extremely active participant of the Estonian jazz life, in addition to the trio, performing at the Opus, she also has a jazz quintet and a six-piece a cappella vocal ensemble as well, not to mention her countless guest-appearances in domestic and European groups.
In her trio with bass and guitar but omitting drums she builds from contemporary jazz harmonies and exciting rhythms borrowed from folk music an intimate musical atmosphere, interspersed by noises and infiltrated with ambient elements. This is where her special singing qualities and piano playing, laced richly with electronics, can truly be revealed. The trio's repertoire is based primarily on their album of own compositions, Kosmogooniline etüüd (Cosmogonic etude), released in 2012, which they performed with success on their concerts in Canada, the United States, and several European countries, including Denmark, Germany, Italy and Switzerland.
