András Berecz is a singer, collector of folk tales, and photographer. His son, Mihály Berecz, is a pianist. Perhaps there has never been a precedent in the Budapest Strings’ concert series for performing arts seemingly so far removed from one another to share the stage. Haydn wrote numerous concertos for keyboard and orchestra, and for a long time, other works were also attributed to him. The two concertos performed at this concert are definitely his own compositions. Sándor Veress’s Four Transylvanian Dances was premiered by Paul Sacher, who commissioned numerous 20th-century musical works and became a major figure in both Hungarian and universal music history.
