After graduating at the jazz faculty of Ferenc Liszt Music Academy one and a half decade ago, group leader György Pataj reached high ranks at several international competitions, like in Krakow, where he earned the special prize as soloist in the competition of international jazz-groups.
During his career he played with famous Hungarian musicians as Aladár Pege, Imre Kőszegi, Gyula Babos and was the pianist of Cotton Club Singers until its breakup. Besides his decade-long big-band experience he prioritizes at present his Piano Songs Project with Gabriella Szűcs and his own group.
The quintet was formed in 2009, reaching it present line-up of prominent musicians of Hungarian jazz scene after several changes. Their music is almost unique in the local jazz palette as its roots come from the almost forgotten genre of 60s-70s hard-bop. The sound of the quintet reflects those of groups of the mentioned era led by Miles Davis, Art Blakey, Freddie Hubbard or McCoy Tyner.
