“The Rosetta Stone, found in 1799 in the Egyptian city of Rosetta, is a piece of granite of enormous historical significance, on which the same text is inscribed in three ancient languages: Egyptian demotic script, Greek, and Egyptian hieroglyphics. Since Greek was already well known at the time, this stone was the key to deciphering hieroglyphics. We are most interested in the metaphorical meaning of the Rosetta Stone: in this sense, it is an element, thought, idea, or concept that serves as a key to understanding more complex realities, even to decoding mystical dimensions. When I write music, this is exactly how I work: an idea comes, and from this small element, like a small piece of a puzzle, the whole picture is later put together. I often record these initial ideas on my phone because I feel that they hold exciting possibilities and paths. Later, when the time comes, I take out these few seconds of recordings and write the entire composition. The musical reality that emerges later was already present in its entirety in that original little capsule. These realities are not only written down, but also rewritten each time thanks to live performances and improvisations. Rosetta (S)Tone is a collective, free project that I can experience with fantastic colleagues”, said Dániel Szabó.
