Franz Schubert: 6 Grandes marches, D. 819
- András Kemenes – piano
- Ferenc Rados – piano
Schubert's piano four hands were written for two young women, Marie and Karoline Esterházy, the daughters of Count Johann Karl Esterházy at their château in Zseliz (Želiezovce) where Schubert served as a music teacher. The pay was relatively good, and his duties teaching piano and singing to the two daughters were relatively light, allowing him to compose happily.
Now, these pieces will be performed by two not-quite-young and definitely not aristocratic men, formerly teacher and student. They are connected by an everlasting curiosity of music notes and pieces - and they both share a certain suspicion of live concerts which sideline music itself.
Marches and polonaises: the traditional and mostly naive music material of social life of Schubert's day which travel to exotic places on the whim of a great composer.
