The concert on the first evening of the Second Hungarian Horn Festival commemorates Ferenc Tarjáni (1938–2017), a prominent figure in the Hungarian music scene as a teacher at the Academy of Music, principal horn player of the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and founding member of the Hungarian Wind Quintet, the Budapest Chamber Ensemble, and the Tarjáni Horn Quartet. His work was recognized with the greatest Hungarian music awards, including the Liszt Prize and the Bartók–Pásztory Prize. The concert program features true curiosities, primarily pieces by 20th-century Hungarian composers, but also includes a work by a young contemporary composer, Roland Szegvári.
