Song-óra is an arts initiative conceived by Tansanian-Hungarian saxophone player Fatime Songoro. The motto “Tune up for attunement” invites fellow musicians to make improvised music together. Their performances are hinged on the encounter of different personalities and musical worlds.
Vitali Maembe is a well-known Tanzanian musician whose art bears the traditional African sound, while his striking texts and poems reflect on the political and social problems in Africa. Like Fela Kuti or Franklin Boukaka's body of work, Maembe's music aims also to initiate dialogues, with the hope that people can find solutions to their problems. During his long "Immunization against Corruption" tour throughout Tanzania, he visited many cities and towns with his fellow musicians, giving citizens the opportunity to speak out against corruption.
He has released five albums so far, and he has performed at major African music venues and events such as the Bagamoyo Arts Festival, the Karibu Festival, the Zinduka Festival, the World Day of Social Justice, or Sauti za Busara. He gave concerts in several European cities as well.
