Winner of the Nokia Young Talent stipend and the Association of Finnish Saxophonists’ “Saxophonist of the Year” award, William Suvanne is a Helsinki-based saxophonist and composer. He currently performs mainly on the tenor saxophone, although he can also be heard playing the soprano, alto, and baritone saxes, as well as the flute, clarinet, and hand flute, on the freelance scene. SÜDNORD Project is his new joint venture with Hungarian trombonist Krisztián Csapó, mixing Southern rhythms with Northern coolness. Inspired by Miles Davis’s Doo Bopperiod, they nonetheless create their own flavour with a peculiar lineup featuring Colombian bass player Andres Acevedo, Hungarian keyboardist Dániel Szebényi, and drummer Ábel Mihalik.
