The Slovak and American musicians of the “Folklore to jazz” project deliver a gripping multicultural adventure with their compositions transforming Slovak folk motifs to driving, impulsive jazz. Leader Radovan Tariška is an important figure of the young jazz generation in Slovakia, chosen for the Jazz Musician of the Year there already in 2002. He appeared in the most different groups from trio to bigband, earning European reputation firstly with his sextet. He played together with musicians such as James Morrison, George Mraz, Harry Sokal, or Piotr Baron. His US fellow musicians in the quartet are well-known figures on the international scene. Pianist Benito Gonzalez, a former member of the Kenny Garrett Quartet, played with the likes of Pharaoh Sanders, Curtis Fuller, Roy Hargrove, Steve Turre or Christian McBride, and has an own trio as well. The list of musicians whom double bass player Essiet Okon Essiet worked with, is almost endless, from Abdullah Ibrahim through Benny Golson, Freddie Hubbard, Abbey Lincoln, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Sam Rivers to Al Foster, Billy Cobham or Cedar Walton. IBO, his own trio plays the traditional music of his Nigerian ascendants mixed with jazz. We hardly need to introduce the wonderful drummer Dávid Hodek to regular visitors of the Opus, as the still only 16-year-old Hungarian from Slovakia has played already several times on its stage and is already a fully qualified member of the entire Hungarian and Slovak jazz scene, looking forward to a brilliant career.
Tickets are available for 1500 HUF on the spot, in the national JEGYPONT network of Interticket and online at JEGY.HU
Seating at the Opus jazz Club can only be guaranteed in case of a table reservation.
