Born to a family of Spanish mother and American father, raised in Austria and Australia, presently living in Hamburg, Susana Sawoff ‘s critically acclaimed 2011 intimate jazz album debut Wrapped up in a little Sigh earned serious success among the public. The voice of Susana accompanies her exquisite piano playing like kind of a sensual sigh, accomplished by the sound and rhythm of restrained double bass and brushed drums.

“My debut turned out to be a jazz album, quite surprizing me, as my present influences are rather the poetry of Tom Waits and music of the Beatles, Nina Simone, Björk or Prince, though I have listend to Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald in my youth as well. The trio line-up, especially with this temperate way of playing and singing, forces me to reveal myself to the deep. You can’t hide yourself behind loudness or sound effects, the audience perceives every quiver of yours” as she puts it.
