Trevor Wishart: The Garden of Earthly Delights
The concert will be followed by a short discussion in which Andrea Szigetvári, electronic composer and associate professor at the Liszt Academy Budapest, will ask Trevor Wishart about the genesis, background and compositional methods of the work.
Inspired by the famous painting of Hieronymus Bosch, Trevor Wishart's multi-channel work explores our contemporary social situation, guiding the listener through a sonic labyrinth and into a maze of human destinies. The bizarre human activities in Bosch's painting can be paralleled with the absurdity of our present world, and this anxiety fuels the inspiration for the work. By transforming the image into time-based music, Wishart has created a sonic labyrinth where the listener moves from one scene to another, and then upon returning, they constantly change. The piece is a reflection on human societies, infused with dark humour, using the voices of singers, actors and politicians.
