At the UMZE Ensemble’s season-opening concert, the bassoon’s 21st-century facets will be showcased with the help of guest soloist György Lakatos. Three mini-concertos, including two world premieres and a Hungarian premiere, will guide the audience through new ways of playing the bassoon and the exciting aesthetic results that emerge from them, all blended with music of contrasting character. The orchestra’s virtual international guest – with the Hungarian premiere of her work torsion: transparent variation – will be Austrian composer Olga Neuwirth, while Balázs Horváth’s piece POLY will serve as a tribute to György Ligeti, who passed away 20 years ago this year.
