News Fin de partie at the International Opera Awards
György Kurtág’s Fin de Partie in Milan won the prize for the best world premiere at the International Opera Awards in London on April 29, 2019. Fin de Partie was Kurtág’s first opera, commissioned and staged in 2018 by the Teatro della Scala, Milano, Italy. The composer adapted Samuel Beckett’s absurd play Endgame as a one-act piece. Kurtág was listening to the November 15, 2018 premiere from Hungary via the live radio broadcast, and as the largest Italian newspaper noted, "the sounds of applause could be well heard in Budapest".
Budapest Music Center served as the creative and rehearsal space during the opera's musical preparations under the guidance of György Kurtág and his wife, Márta. Sound and video recording of the rehearsals are kept at the BMC Library for the future generations of Kurtág researchers.
