Opus Jazz Club July meetings in jazz

Jazz meetings in July

Opus Jazz Club again proves to be the home of inspiring meetings in jazz during the summer month of July.

Upon a visit home to his native Hungary from Paris, bass player Mátyás Szandai presents his new quartet featuring Nelson Veras, Ricardo Isquierdo, and Fabrice Moreau on July 13th. After the concert which promises to be an elegant mix of Latin and European contemporary influences, the band will immediately start to record their debut album for BMC Records right here at BMC Studios.

A key figure of avantgarde jazz in Hungary, István Grencsó welcomes the saxophonist & poet Lewis Jordan as his spiritual brother in music. „István’s approach to music expresses a philosophy which I find the most alluring. He interprets ’free music’ in the exact way that resonates with me: with a passion and energy that comes straight from the heart. His compositions and his freedom of expression all lead to an uncompromised sensual experience.” – wrote Lewis Jordan about Grencsó in the booklet of their first album. No truer words could be spoken about his partner in music and the compositions born from their meeting. Their non-stop interaction with an unbreakable rhythm provides the chemistry that is absolutely necessary for two such powerful soloists to attain their musical freedom.

Always on the move, acclaimed singer Veronika Harcsa and his longtime guitarist collaborator Bálint Gyémánt present their new quartet featuring Antoine Pierre and Nicolas Thys with a brand new repertoire. The Quartet debuted at BMC this Spring, but July 16th and July 17th will be the first time they perform their new show in the intimate milieu of Opus Jazz Club.

The project of vocalist Thea Soti and saxophonist Jonas Engel aims to create a new awareness for improvised / composed music and the sounds of the environment. The compositions are designed not only for voice and saxophone, but also for the inflowing city noises. The lyrics are poems or poetic narratives about our modern life, inspired by the lifestyle of the big cities. Don't miss their Urban Stories on July 26th.

July 28th sees Azeri pianist Elchin Shirinov with Márton Fenyvesi, Mátyás Szandai and András Dés perform compositions from their 2017 album Maiden Tower, taking us on a musical journey from Budapest to Baku.
