JAZZY LIVE | Ági Szalóki - An Evening with Songs of Katalin Karádi

21:00
Opus Jazz Club

Ági Szalóki - vocals Kristóf Bacsó - saxophone Ferenc Schreck - trombone Gábor Juhász - guitar Róbert Szakcsi Lakatos - piano Zoltán Kovács - double bass Balázs Cseh - drums Though one of the best Hungarian folk-singers of her generation, Ági Szalóki in her present program, paying tribute to pre-war leading Hungarian actress and singer Katalin Karády, is backed with a real jazz combo. According to Ági there's no rel difference in improvising on a traditional folk song of Kalotaszeg or on a Karády song, so she sings all she knows about love, desire, waiting, pride, humiliation, coquetry, disappointment and fulfilment. “I love these declarations of love. They are simple, daring, honest and still today relevant. I've found thoughts in them, both wise and lovingly ironic, which stand quite close to me. Karády sings as one who's gotten over a lot of things. I am trying to identify myself with this side of her rather than that of the famous femme fatale which of course I couldn't, albeit when stepping to the stage I become a diva as well, despite of my different character. So I try to spread the word from the stage that each woman is able to be a diva and become a true queen like Karády, as each of us went through our own love affairs” Szalóki confesses about the birth of the production. The original compositions of Szabolcs Fényes, Tamás Hegedűs, Károly De Fries and Jenő Sándor were re-arranged by guitarist Gábor Juhász and saxophone player Kristóf Bacsó.
