2016 GRAMMY Nominee Trombonist/composer Marshall Gilkes combines the spontaneous invention of jazz and the elegant architecture of classical composition with virtuosic technique and passionate emotion. His decadent sound can be heard in the lush impressionism of the Maria Schneider Orchestra; the exotic chamber jazz of Colombian harpist Edmar Castañeda’s trio; and New York’s thriving Latin music scene. He has performed with Wynton Marsalis’ Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, the Christian McBride Big Band, the David Berger Jazz Orchestra, Billy Cobham, Richard Bona, and Barbra Streisand. A finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition in 2003 and Juilliard alumnus, Gilkes has released four albums as a leader. The latest, Köln, features a stunning set of his compositions for Germany’s WDR Big Band. "Marshall Gilkes is a trombone badass, an original thinker with chops of doom." - Thomas Conrad, Jazz Times

For his performance at Opus Jazz Club, Gilkes is joined by fellow trombone players Zoltán Kiss and Eric Budd and a hip Hungarian rhythm section.
