Georg Philip Telemann, the outstanding composer of the Baroque, died 250 years ago. This concert pays homage to his memory. His 12 Fantasias for Solo Flute belongs to his major works, morover, it is one of the most significant among all the pieces composed for solo instrument in the era. Telemann’s solo flute fantasias are alone in the entire Baroque repertoire to include movements seemingly impossible on flute: fugues (fantasias 2, 6, and 8–11), a French overture (fantasia 7) and a passacaglia (fantasia 5).
