Opera, monodrama and musical – all in one concert. With the opera he presented at the 2006 Paris Autumn Festival, George Benjamin undertook to relate a poetic story in the most informal manner possible. All this, the composer acknowledged, “is not all that easy in the age of film and television.” The “hero” of Peter Maxwell Davies’s monodrama is British king George III. The play presents the strange visions of the monarch who was afflicted with mental illness, while the orchestra represent those around him. In Balázs Horváth’s production, the orchestra become the protagonists (in a theatrical sense as well), with the musicians fulfilling as many acting as musical responsibilities. It is a concert that needs not only a conductor but a director as well.
Tickets are available for 2000 HUF in the box offices of the Palace of Arts, at the BMC, in the national JEGYPONT network of Interticket and online at JEGY.HU.
