Opus Jazz Club Dutch Focus Jazz Weekend at BMC on 2–3 September

Dutch Focus Jazz Weekend at BMC
2-3 September 2022
Budapest Music Center – Opus Jazz Club

Explosive sound and versatility not often encountered in the jazz world: the Dutch Focus Jazz Weekend highlights the vibrant colours of the Dutch jazz scene at Budapest Music Center on 2–3 September.

The Netherlands became a true jazz superpower in the last 100 years, blending the American tradition in a free and creative way to create their own dialect of jazz. Today, the influx of artists into Amsterdam, The Hague, and other Dutch cities from all around the world continues to fuel the ever-dynamic jazz scene of the country.

Dutch jazz artists may rarely be heard in Budapest, making the Dutch Focus Jazz Weekend – co-produced by Budapest Music Center and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Hungary – all the more special.

On the 2nd of September at 20:00, DiMonGo Special kicks off the Dutch Focus weekend at BMC’s Opus Jazz Club. Montis, Goudsmit & Directie are the new darlings of the Dutch soul and jazz scene. The three men share a love for swinging, groovy soul-jazz music, and bring a witty approach to a genre usually lacking humor. As Amsterdam is a place where the top jazz players are always running into each other, it was at a fortuitous and chance meeting that they felt compelled to form a working band. This was in 2017. Astonishing audiences with their dazzling live shows, the drum, guitar and hammond trio have toured extensively since their formation. Whether at the North Sea Jazz Festival, the Zwarte Cross, and well-known venues like Amsterdam-based Paradiso and Bimhuis, crowds have been energized by the infectious grooves and remarkable energy of the group.

The Benjamin Herman Trio will perform on the 3rd of September at 20:00. For the past 25 years saxophonist and musical omnivore Benjamin Herman has been one of Holland’s most productive musicians of his generation. To date Benjamin has released over 50 albums as a solo artist and as front man of his groove orientated eight-piece ensemble New Cool Collective. His solo work varies from postmodern interpretations of classic Dutch avant-garde with drum icon Han Bennink and enfant terrible Misha Mengelberg to collaborations with Dutch poets, pop singers and hip hop artists. The Benjamin Herman Trio’s live performances are characterized by its eclectic repertoire, cherry picking the best material from Benjamin’s vast back catalogue. Timeless classics, guilty pleasures and delightful virtuosity will create a great jazz experience at Opus Jazz Club.
