The Mystery of the Goldberg Variations

As part of the Bach for Everyone Festival held each year around the time of Bach's birthday, music historian Gergely Fazekas will host a series of three lectures on March 21st at the BMC Library.
The first lecture focuses on Bach, the person: the question of whether he can be grasped behind the works, and, if so, who was this great-grandfather of so many children, the famous organist in Germany, the great cantor of the Thomas Church in Leipzig, the strict teacher at the Saint Thomas School.
The second lecture turns to the music of Bacg, trying to capture its general features, providing an introduction to the musical world of the most sophisticated composer of all time.
The closing lecture focuses on a specific piece of music, the Goldberg Variations, a legendary cycle originally composed as a remedy for insomnia that no one has surpassed in keyboard composition technique over the last two hundred and eighty years.

Free entry! Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
