Lucas was (is) a concept. István Örkény steps out of the steam, a young man bumps into him, he almost tells him to go to hell, but surely it is Latinovits who is a pity to be angry with; there is little Feri Kállai soaking in the cold pool, Prof in the outdoor pool swimming alone as usual. We think of Kodály as a frumpish, unsmiling coeliac-type of figure kept to himself. Well, then, let’s listen to his compositions – they don’t lie. Serenity, grace, joy for life and plenty of humor and antique beauty. This is the Kodály who evolves from the notes. A fragile, immensely sensitive soul. A true-bred romanticist. Perhaps the last representative of his era.
