How is the moment different from eternity? An impromptu piano piece from a planned composition? Schubert’s series of impromptus and moments musicaux are not only wonderful pieces of music, but also offer an opportunity to reflect on the above issues. Gábor Csalog selects from this special slice of Schubert's piano oeuvre, and the discussion related to the concert will also touch on questions about how the Latin term “in promptu” became a signifier of art pieces created in the moment in 17th century France, consequently becoming a musical genre in the early 19th century called impromptu and moment musical, and what makes these Schubert pieces such a special experience for both the pianist and the listener.
