Though the first CD of Lithuanian quartet Jazz Miniatures appeared just recently, the two leading figures of the group, singer Giedré and pianist Andrej Polevikov, have been well-known names of the Lithuanian music scene for a long time. Giedré, former lead vocalist of hip and extremely popular indie groups Milky Lasers and Empty, switched from electronic music with Jazz Miniatures to an acoustic setting with jazz, bossa nova and sung poetry flavours. Her new “partner in crime”, pianist and arranger Andrej Polevikov, an admirer of traditional jazz and classic standard repertoire, fills the arrangements of well-known melodies with much space for improvisation and keeps the natural swing feeling, while Giedre offers a special modern colour. The musical world of their collaboration is a familiar one but full with surprise at the same time: the usual soundscapes of bossa nova and other jazz evergreens, enriched by the singer’s inexplicable charge, become timely and actually green, painted with fresh colours, revitalizing the “worn-out” patterns, similarly to the likes of Madeleine Peyroux or Melody Gardot.
The group, though just becoming two years old, appeared already at several international events like the Blues’n’Jazz Rallye 2011 in Luxemburg, the Birmingham International Jazz & Blues Festival 2013 in the UK and the Baltic Sea Festival 2013 in Stockholm, Sweden, besides their regular Lithuanian concert tours.
