The decade-long cooperation between Péter Eötvös and the Hochschule für Musik in Basel resulted in several joint programs years in Basel in the last years. Eötvös conducted orchestral and chamber concerts and he was “composer in residence” in the program of the 2004/05 season. His compositions were played, analysed and public symposiums were held. During this work the idea of a cooperation in Budapest Music Center emerged. This project is realized between 27 November and 3 December in the BMC during a master class for composers and conductors, organized by Péter Eötvös Contemporary Music Foundation, the Hochschule für Musik Basel and the Christoph Delz Stiftung. The chamber orchestra of the Hochschule für Musik Basel will participate the sessions led by Professor Peter Eötvös and László Tihanyi. Six young conductors rehearse and conduct the closing concerts, three of them conduct the concert in BMC on 3rd December, and the other three conduct the concert in Basel on 5th December.
The concert will be the world premiere of the two opening pieces, composed by two young composers: Matthias S. Krüger and Máté Bella. Them follows Siegel Op. 3, a piece composed by Christoph Delz, a Basel-born composer, who died young in 1993. The piece had its premiere in Basel, 1980, conducted by Péter Eötvös. In the second part of the concert, works of two 20th century “classics”, Anton Webern and Alban Berg will be performed. Conductors on the Budapest concert are Mihály Kaszás (H), Leonhard Garms (A) and Pierre Dumoussaud (F), while in Basel the other three: Gergely Dubóczky (H), Matthias Krüger (D) and Elena Schwarz (CH).
